The design features a quote spoken by Mrs. Elton in Jane Austen’s 1815 novel Emma. Mrs. Elton mentions the following words in a dialogue with Emma:
“Ah! there is nothing like staying at home, for real comfort.”
The last row of alphabets is a set of ligatures, or combination letters, which are common in print and are used to make certain combinations of letters more easy to read. On my design I chose F ligatures (FF, FFI, FI, FT) and CT and ST.
TECHNICAL DETAILS
This design measures 193 crosses in width and height and has 8428 crosses. Please see the graph below for size and floss estimates. Floss estimates are based on working with two pulled strands (14 – 18-count Aida or 28 – 36-count linen) or one strand (20-count Aida / 40-count linen and higher). It is, of course, up to you how many strands you want to use for your project. A three-cross greyed-out overlap area is found from the 2nd pattern page onwards to help you find your way.
